Mortgage Brokers

Independent advisers who search the market and explain the options in plain English.

We’re building this directory

We’re adding mortgage brokers across the UK. If you’re one of them, list your business and be among the first people see here.

What a mortgage broker does

A broker looks at your income, deposit and circumstances, searches the lenders they have access to and recommends a mortgage, then manages the application through to the offer.

Brokers are particularly useful if you are self-employed, have a small deposit, a complicated income or a less-than-perfect credit history, because they know which lenders are likely to say yes.

Whole of market, multi-tied or tied

A whole-of-market broker can recommend from across the market. A multi-tied broker works with a panel of lenders, and a tied adviser with a single lender. Ask which applies before you go ahead.

How brokers are paid

Most brokers receive a fee from the lender when a mortgage completes. Some also charge you a fee, either fixed or a percentage of the loan. A broker must tell you how they are paid before giving advice.

Check they are authorised

Mortgage advice is regulated. Check any broker on the Financial Conduct Authority register at register.fca.org.uk before sharing your details.

Choosing mortgage brokers

Common questions about searching, comparing and getting in touch.

Read our guides
How do I find mortgage brokers near me?

Enter a town, city or the first part of your postcode in the search box to see providers covering that area. We are adding businesses to each directory, so if there are none near you yet, our guides explain what to look for when choosing one.

How should I compare providers?

Look at the services each one specialises in, check any professional registration that applies, and read independent reviews. Then contact two or three directly and compare their answers, fees and how quickly they respond.

Does it cost anything to use the directory?

No. Searching and contacting businesses is free. Any fees are agreed directly between you and the provider you choose.

How do I add my business?

Use the List Your Business page to send us your details. Once reviewed, your profile appears in the relevant directory and in location searches.
