Anyone working on gas appliances must, by law, be on the Gas Safe Register. For electrical work, look for an electrician registered with a competent person scheme such as NICEIC or NAPIT, who can certify the work for building regulations.
Ask for a written quote, check insurance and ask to speak to recent customers.

How do I find tradespeople near me?
Enter a town, city or the first part of your postcode in the search box to see providers covering that area. We are adding businesses to each directory, so if there are none near you yet, our guides explain what to look for when choosing one.
How should I compare providers?
Look at the services each one specialises in, check any professional registration that applies, and read independent reviews. Then contact two or three directly and compare their answers, fees and how quickly they respond.
Does it cost anything to use the directory?
No. Searching and contacting businesses is free. Any fees are agreed directly between you and the provider you choose.
How do I add my business?
Use the List Your Business page to send us your details. Once reviewed, your profile appears in the relevant directory and in location searches.
